League Information Basics
League Time Frame
Players participate for a set period of time depending on the specific
promotion. League time frames are flexible in terms of length, but
more players qualify in longer leagues. For example, the full
winter
2008 WSOP league runs 16 weeks.
Grand
Prizes - Entry to WSOP Events, WPT Events
The Minnesota Poker League routinely
awards the absolute best prize packages of
any poker league in the country. There are typically 3 to 4 major
contests each year with different prize packages to mix things up.
Scoring
Players earn points in weekly tournaments
by placing in the top 30% (each location has their own independent
standings sheet).
At the end of the promotion, the top XX% players from each location will advance to the
playoffs. The qualifying percentage depends on the contest.
Usually it is between 10% to 20%. An attendance bonus system rewards players just for showing up to encourage regular
participation. Poker league scores are entered to the
poker league website standings.
Setup /
Supplies
Participating establishments must use Minnesota Poker League branded
league chips, which are provided at no cost. However, tables are

Detailed rules will be provided. Starting chip
count, blind schedule, etc will be set by the league officials and
must be followed at
all locations for consistency and to keep the games fair.
Dealers
Players deal themselves. Keep in mind
this is FREE poker!
Posters are provided. The league
advertises the 3-4 times per year on various radio stations in Minnesota
to help kickoff new contests. However, we are unable to cover the
entire state adequately. Additional advertisement is highly
recommended to maximize potential.
Cost - Very reasonable!
We offer one LOW FLAT monthly rate for
participating in all of our promotions. We will also keep to our
commitment of adding more prize value AND lowering rates as our network of
bars grows.
Social Game
- Make It Fun!
The key to maximizing sales is to encourage
the games to be fun. Break the ice with small
prizes for first out, best hand, etc. Have a door prize to give
out later in the night to reward customers for sticking around.
Offer side games (prizes only!) to give losers an opportunity to play
more.
FREE
Poker - Legal?
The MN Texas Holdem bill was signed into law in May 2005. Legislation
was introduced in 2005 to formally add Texas Holdem to the
list of social card games allowed by the state. As long as the games
are FREE and prizes are limited to $200 or less. Our league
structure provides that winners advance to CASINO-based tournaments where
the buy in value is $200 or less (or other venue where permitted by law).
Summary:
The cost of sponsorship is reasonable and we will continue to strive to be
your long-term partner in providing the absolute best Texas Holdem
promotions possible.
The magnitude of the Grand Prize(s) is the key and will draw a lot of
interest from players. The
league model promotes weekly participation, which is important. Promote your product, provide good service and you
should see a nice return on investment. We will help you every step
of the way.
*We can
have your league up and running in 2-3 weeks if you're ready to go.
We recommend lead time
for preparation and advertisement of 3-6 weeks.
